About Nikoletta Lis – IBCLC Lactation Consultant and Midwife in Oslo

Nikoletta Lis is a midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) based in Oslo. Through Femiliarise, she offers lactation and midwifery care for women and families, at Vitalklinikken, through home visits and online. Consultations are available in English, Norwegian and Greek, and she also understands Polish.

Experience

Nikoletta has worked as a midwife in Greece, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom and Norway, in both midwife-led units and hospitals. She has also provided midwifery and breastfeeding support in community settings and refugee camps with international non-governmental organisations.

Her clinical experience covers antenatal, birth and postnatal care for women and newborns, in both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, as well as pregnancy loss and reproductive and sexual health.

As a lactation consultant, she has supported many families with breastfeeding and infant feeding, including tongue-tie (ankyloglossia), mastitis and blocked ducts, where she also uses therapeutic ultrasound.

Approach

Nikoletta believes in the strength of the female body and supports natural processes, avoiding unnecessary interventions. When medical assessment or treatment is needed, she refers to and works together with other health services. She is committed to women’s autonomy and their right to make informed decisions about their own bodies and health.

Education and certifications

Nikoletta qualified as a midwife in Greece in 2014 and is an authorised midwife in Norway. She holds two master’s degrees, one in Public Health (MPH) and one in Exercise and Health. She has been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2019.

She is a member of Den norske jordmorforening (the Norwegian Association of Midwives) and the International Consortium of Oral Ankylofrenula Professionals (ICAP). She has also completed courses in infant massage and somatic movement.

Research interests

Her research interests include how epigenetics affects women’s and newborns’ health, and the use of simulation in midwifery education.
