A 4-week midwife and IBCLC-led baby massage course in English at Vitalklinikken, Oslo, for parents and babies aged 0 – 6 weeks. Each session combines gentle infant massage with expert support for your own postnatal recovery. Norwegian translation and explanations are available if you need them.

In each session, you’ll learn simple baby massage techniques that can help your baby relax, sleep and digest more comfortably, followed by a guided discussion on an important part of life after birth: infant feeding, pelvic floor recovery, mental health and family dynamics

It’s a warm, relaxed space to bond with your baby, ask questions and meet other parents in the first months of parenthood.

The 4-week programme

Week 1: Legs and feet – Breastfeeding and infant feeding

Learn how to read your baby’s cues and begin massage with the legs and feet. Then we focus on feeding: supply, comfort, common challenges, bottle feeding and combination feeding.

Week 2: Tummy – Pelvic floor and core recovery

Tummy massage techniques that may ease wind, colic and constipation. Then we look at healing your pelvic floor and core after birth, with safe exercises and signs that you need extra help.

Week 3: Chest, arms and hands – Mental health and wellbeing

Massage for the chest, arms and hands. Then we talk openly about emotional wellbeing after birth, including baby blues, postnatal depression and anxiety, and building your support network.

Week 4: Face, back and full routine – Sexual health and family dynamics

Complete your full massage routine to use at home. Then we discuss intimacy after birth, contraception, relationships and adjusting as a family. Partners are warmly invited to this session.

Frequently asked questions

When can I start baby massage?

This course is for babies from one week after birth. The strokes you learn will also be useful as your baby grows, so you can keep using them at home for months to come.

Is baby massage suitable for premature (preterm) babies?

Yes, in many cases. Gentle, calm touch can be especially comforting for babies born early. We adapt the strokes, pressure and pace to your baby’s needs and look closely at their cues together. Contact us if you have questions, and we’ll find the best approach for you and your baby.

What if my baby cries or falls asleep during the session?

That’s completely normal. You can feed, comfort or let your baby sleep whenever needed. You’ll still learn the techniques and can practise them at home.

What oil should I use for baby massage?

We recommend an unscented, cold-pressed plant oil. We’ll talk about choosing a safe oil in the first session.

What should I bring?

A soft towel or blanket, a spare nappy and anything your baby needs to feel comfortable.

Can my partner join?

Yes. Partners are welcome at every session and especially encouraged to join the final session on relationships and family life.
